Pros and Cons of Real vs. Faux Wedding Florals

When it comes to planning your dream wedding, the choice of wedding florals is a topic that cannot be taken lightly. Flowers have the power to transform any space and create an enchanting atmosphere that reflects your personal style. However, deciding between real and faux wedding florals can be a tough decision. In this blog post, we will explore the pros and cons of each, helping you make an informed choice for your special day!

Real Wedding Florals

Florist: Always Flowers 808 | Photography: Michele C Photo

Pros:

1. Natural Beauty: Real flowers have a stunning natural beauty and fragility that only fresh florals display. The vibrant colors, delicate textures, and sweet fragrances can add an ethereal touch to your wedding decor.
2. Seasonal Variety: With real flowers, you have the advantage of choosing from a wide array of seasonal blooms. This allows you to perfectly align your wedding aesthetic with the time of year, creating a harmonious visual experience.
3. Eco-Friendly Option: Opting for locally sourced, seasonal flowers can be an eco-friendly choice, especially if you choose organic and sustainably grown blooms. By supporting local flower farmers, you contribute to the community and reduce your carbon footprint.

Cons:

1. Limited Availability: Depending on the season and location, certain flowers may not be available for your wedding date. This could restrict your options and make it difficult to achieve your desired floral vision.
2. Perishable Nature: Real flowers are perishable and can wilt or lose freshness throughout the day. This means that you might not be able to preserve your bouquet as a keepsake after the wedding.
3. Higher Cost: Real flowers can be expensive, especially if you have a specific flower in mind that is not readily available. Additionally, the cost of professional floral arrangements and the need for a floral designer can add up quickly.

Faux Wedding Florals

Pros:

1. Unlimited Availability: Faux wedding florals offer an endless range of options, regardless of the season. You can choose from any flower, color, or style, as there are no limits to what can be created.
2. Durability: Synthetic flowers require minimal maintenance and can withstand various elements without wilting or losing their shape. They can be preserved as a lasting memento of your special day.
3. Cost-Effective: Faux flowers can often be a more budget-friendly option, especially if you are working with a limited wedding budget. They eliminate the need for a floral designer and can be reused or resold after the wedding.

Florist: Borrowed Blooms | Photography: Bianca Photography

Cons:

1. Artificial Appearance: Despite advanced manufacturing techniques, some faux flowers still have an artificial look that may not match the natural beauty of real flowers. However, high-quality silk or latex options can be incredibly realistic!
2. Limited Fragrance: While some faux flowers are scented, they typically lack the natural fragrance that brings a touch of freshness and romance to your wedding atmosphere.
3. Environmental Impact: Some faux flowers are made from synthetic materials that are not biodegradable. So if sustainability is a priority for you, you may want to do additional research to find options that are sustainable if that is important to you.

Florist: Borrowed Blooms | Photography: Michele C Photo

In conclusion, the choice between real and faux wedding florals ultimately depends on your personal preferences, wedding theme, and budget! Real flowers offer natural beauty, seasonal variety, and an eco-friendly option, but come with limited availability and higher costs. On the other hand, faux flowers offer unlimited options, durability, and cost-effectiveness, but may lack the natural elegance and fragrance of real blooms. Consider these factors carefully and make a choice that best suits your vision for your perfect day!

Things to Consider When Having a Dress Change at Your Wedding

Congratulations, bride-to-be! Planning a wedding is a magical experience, and one of the most exciting decisions you'll make is choosing your wedding dress! But have you ever considered having a dress change during your special day? The idea of showcasing two (sometimes even three!) stunning looks on your wedding day is becoming increasingly popular, adding an extra element of surprise and elegance. If you're contemplating a dress change, here are a few important aspects to consider before making your final decision.

Photography: Aria Studios

Timing is Key

First and foremost, it's crucial to plan your dress change carefully. Timing is everything! Make sure to allocate enough time for the transition process without compromising your enjoyment of the day. Ideally, the dress change should occur during a natural break in the festivities, such as after the ceremony or before the reception. This way, you can gracefully slip away and reappear with your new dress without causing any disruption to the flow of the event.

If you plan to do a dress change on your special day, we highly recommend informing your coordinator early in the planning process. This will allow them to ensure that the timing of your dress change is planned perfectly!

Photography: Mike Pham Photography

Practicality and Comfort

Photography: Bianca Photography

As beautiful as your wedding dresses may be, practicality and comfort should also be taken into account. Remember, you'll be wearing these dresses for an extended period, and you want to feel comfortable throughout the day. Consider the weather, venue, and activities involved in your wedding.

Opt for fabrics that are lightweight and breathable, especially if you're having an outdoor ceremony. Additionally, ensure that the dresses are easy to move in and allow you to dance freely during the reception. After all, you want to enjoy every moment of your special day without feeling restricted by your attire.

PHOTOGRAPHING THE MOMENT

Photography: Aria Studios

Capturing the essence of your wedding day is an art, and nothing showcases this better than a professional photograph documenting the moment when you slip into a different dress! If you would like this dress change to be photographed, as it may hold symbolic value with a family member, such as changing into your mother's wedding dress and having a photograph of her assisting you with putting it on, it is important to include this in the timing of your special day.

Letting your coordinator know whether you would like this dress change to be photographed or not will help them to plan this moment correctly!

Logistics and Assistance

Executing a dress change smoothly requires meticulous planning and the assistance of a reliable individual. Enlist the help of your maid of honor, a trusted family member, or a professional wedding coordinator to ensure that everything runs seamlessly during the dress transition! Supplement your preparations by organizing all the necessary accessories well in advance. Have your maid of honor or coordinator gather your jewelry, undergarments, shoes, and other essential items beforehand. This eliminates any last-minute scrambling and ensures that everything is readily available when you need it.

We hope these tips help you when considering to have a dress change on your wedding day! :-)

How to Find Your Ideal Hawaii Wedding Venue

Planning a wedding in Hawaii is a dream come true for many couples! With the island’s breathtaking scenery, tranquil beaches, and vibrant culture, Hawaii offers the perfect backdrop for a romantic and memorable wedding. However, with so many stunning locations to choose from, finding your ideal wedding venue can be a daunting task. But fear not! We have compiled a list of tips to help you find the perfect Hawaii wedding venue for your special day!

1. Determine your wedding style and vision

Before you start searching for venues, take some time to envision your dream wedding. Consider your wedding style, whether it's a beachfront ceremony, a traditional chapel, or an elegant garden terrace affair.

Think about the ambiance, guest count, and overall aesthetic you want to create. Having a clear vision of your wedding style will help you narrow down your venue options. If you don’t quite yet have your dream vision in mind check out our blog sharing tips on how to create a wedding vision board HERE!

2. Research, research, research

Once you have a clear vision in mind, it's time to research potential venues. Browse through wedding websites, blogs, and social media platforms for inspiration. Look for real wedding photos to get a sense of how each venue looks and feels on your wedding day. Consider the location, amenities, and reviews of each venue you come across. Don't forget to check if the venue allows outside vendors, as this can greatly impact your choices!

3. Set a budget

Setting a budget is crucial when selecting a wedding venue. Determine how much you are willing to spend on your venue, including any additional expenses such as catering, decorations, and rentals. Keep in mind that some venues offer all-inclusive packages, which can help simplify the planning process and potentially save you money. Be realistic about your budget and be open to compromise if necessary! For tips on wedding budgeting check out the following blogs:

4. Consider the logistics

When evaluating potential venues, consider the logistics of each location. Think about the accessibility for your guests, accommodation options nearby, and any additional services the venue offers, such as parking or furniture. If you're planning a destination wedding, consider distance from the airport and whether the venue can also accommodate the reception as wellas your guests!

5. Schedule visits and meet with venue coordinators

After narrowing down your options, schedule visits to your top choices. This will give you a chance to see the venues in person and ask any specific questions you may have. Meeting with the venue coordinators will also give you a sense of their professionalism and responsiveness, which are crucial factors in ensuring your wedding day goes smoothly!

We hope this helps you to find your ideal hawaii wedding venue! :-)

CONGRATULATIONS COLLEEN & JONATHAN! <3

2022 WEDDING HIGHLIGHT | PHOTOS BY BIANCA PHOTOGRAPHY

A lovely wedding celebration with an ocean front ceremony and lively reception at the Kahala Resort on the east side of the island of O’ahu.

Hawaii is renowned for its captivating scenery, stunning sunsets, and breathtaking beaches, making it an idyllic destination for couples to exchange vows. Last fall, we had the pleasure of coordinating the wedding of Colleen and Johnathan! A remarkable couple who met and fell in love during their college years! The lovebirds celebrated their special day in style at the luxurious Kahala Resort, sharing their joy with family and friends from near and far! :-)

As the ceremony was set to begin in the early afternoon, getting ready began bright and early at around 4:30 am! After a few hours of getting her hair and makeup done, the bride was ready for her first look with her groom. But, of course, not before our staff made sure that she was picture-perfect!

If you're ever not sure how your veil looks or if you need assistance with putting on your dress (as beadwork, corsets, and zippers can be difficult!), always let your coordinator know so that they can assist you! Our goal is to help you have the most stress-free and enjoyable day possible!

Colleen and Jonathan had their first look at the lobby of the Kahala Resort. With no one else in the lobby and the grand, colorful chandelier hanging above them, the couple enjoyed an intimate first look with each other on their special day! Following the first look and a few family photos, it was time for the ceremony!

C & J's ocean front ceremony was the perfect combination of classic beauty with a tropical flair! A sweet white arch adorned with white florals and greenery stood as the ceremony arbor, while white rose petals lined the aisle.

The ceremony was filled with so many sweet moments, especially the personal vows. As college sweethearts, they expressed their gratitude for their shared values, compatibility, and unwavering support for one another. It is a bond that will only continue to be strengthened over the years to come!

Following the ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed a cocktail hour before celebrating the rest of their special day in the Waialae Ballroom! Then the rest of the afternoon was filled with laughter, dancing, eating, and just so much smiling as the couple and their family and friends celebrated Colleen and Johnthan's happily ever after!

A sunrise elopement allows you both to begin your marriage with an intimate and private celebration that focuses solely on your connection and commitment!

Avoid the Crowds

Planning a wedding can often be overwhelming, with a myriad of details and decisions to consider. By opting for a sunrise elopement, you liberate yourself from the pressures associated with organizing a large-scale event. What's a First Look? And how to do it!

Capturing the Magic of a Wedding First Look

Photography: Embr Photo | Venue: Kahala Resort

Weddings are inherently filled with extraordinary moments of love and anticipation, and one moment that has gained popularity in recent years is the "Wedding First Look." This special pre-ceremony photo session between the bride and groom is an intimate and emotional experience, allowing couples to share a private moment before walking down the aisle. In this blog, we'll delve into what a Wedding First Look entails and provide some helpful tips on how to incorporate it into your own dream wedding! :-)

What is a Wedding First Look?

A First Look is a heartfelt, staged moment where the bride and groom see each other for the first time on their wedding day! Traditionally, couples would wait until the ceremony to lay eyes on each other, but the First Look allows them to share this magical experience privately, away from the eager eyes of their guests. This enchanting encounter is often arranged by the wedding photographer and captures the raw emotions of the bride and groom as they catch a glimpse of one another in their wedding attire for the first time on their special day!

Why do we wait till the Ceremony to see each other?

Photography: KPIX Photography | Venue: Halekulani Resort

A big part of determining whether to do a "First Look" or not can come with understanding where the tradition came from.  Traditionally, marriages were arranged, so if the Bride or Groom saw each other before the ceremony, and either didn't like the other, it was likely they wouldn't show up to get married.  As this happened, it was thought to be "bad luck" to see each other before the ceremony as it became likely that the ceremony would not happen.

To negate this problem, the Bride & Groom were kept apart and in fact, Brides began to wear veils (to cover their face) throughout the ceremony.  Once the ceremony ended, the Groom was given approval to lift the veil and kiss his new wife (whatever she looked like).  Since couples often now know who they are marrying and WANT to marry each other, this old tradition/superstition doesn't hold the meaning and value it once did.

Why Consider a Wedding First Look?

Apart from the undeniable allure of experiencing an intimate moment with your beloved before the ceremony, the Wedding First Look has several practical advantages. Here are a few to consider:

Photography: Kai Photo | Venue: Koolau Ballrooms

  1. Emotional Connection: The First Look allows couples to express their emotions openly in a peaceful setting, sharing a genuine moment of connection without any distractions.

  2. Nerves and Stress Relief: Seeing each other before the ceremony can help alleviate nerves, as it offers an opportunity for the couple to relax together and support one another before the day proceeds.

  3. Maximizing Photo Opportunities: A Wedding First Look provides ample time for your photographer to capture precious moments between the two of you, allowing for exquisite images without a strict timeline constraint.

  4. Enjoying your Reception: By having a First Look, you can spend more time with your guests during the cocktail hour or reception, rather than being whisked away for extended portrait sessions after the ceremony.

How to Do a First Look at Your Wedding?

First and foremost communicate that you want to do a first look at your wedding with your photographer, videographer, and coordinator! These vendors are integral parts in ensuring that you have a first look that goes smoothly so telling them that you’d like to capture this sweet moment before your ceremony is the most important step to doing a first look at your wedding!

After telling your vendors that you’d like to do a first look, your photographer and/or videographer will choose a location that will allow them to capture this moment as privately and aesthetically as possible, while your coordinator will create your timeline with the necessary timing to have a perfect first look!

Photography: Brandon Smith Photography | Venue: Halekulani Resort

All in all, the "first look" at one's wedding is a truly magical and intimate moment that captures the essence of love and anticipation. It allows couples to share a private and emotional experience before the ceremony, setting the tone for the rest of the day. Whether it brings tears of joy or nervous excitement, the first look creates a connection that is cherished forever. It is a time to reflect on the journey taken together and to celebrate the commitment made.

As the couple stands there, gazing into each other's eyes, surrounded by the beauty of their chosen Hawaii backdrop, they are reminded that this is just the beginning of a lifetime filled with love, happiness, and unforgettable memories!

3 Things to Consider When Having a Summer Wedding in Hawaii

Are you dreaming of a magical summer wedding in the tropical paradise of Hawaii? If the answer is yes, then get ready to embark on an incredible journey filled with sun-kissed beaches, breathtaking landscapes, and warm aloha vibes!

While a summer wedding in Hawaii can be absolutely enchanting, there are a few important factors to consider to ensure your big day is everything you've ever dreamed of. Here are some key things to keep in mind when planning your summer wedding in Hawaii:

1. Weather and Timing

Though Hawaii is known to have a summer season all year long, the island’s actual summer season typically runs from June to September, and is known for its stunningly beautiful weather! Warm temperatures, gentle ocean breezes, and clear blue skies create the perfect backdrop for a romantic wedding celebration.

However, it's important to remember that summer in Hawaii also coincides with the peak tourist season! This means that popular venues and accommodations may be in high demand, so make sure to book well in advance to secure your desired locations.
Keep in mind that summertime in Hawaii can also bring occasional rain showers, especially in certain areas such as the windward side of the islands. Therefore, it's essential to have a backup plan in case of inclement weather. Many venues offer indoor or covered outdoor options to ensure your special day goes off without a hitch, rain or shine!

Photography: Michele C Photo | Venue: Hawaii Vista Weddings

2. Dress Code and Comfort

Hawaiian summers can get quite warm and humid, so it's important to consider the comfort of your guests. Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics for your bridal attire and encourage your guests to dress accordingly.

You may want to provide fans, parasols, or even cold towels to keep everyone cool and refreshed during the ceremony and reception.

Additionally, keep in mind that Hawaii is a laid-back destination with a casual island vibe. Embrace the relaxed atmosphere and consider having a more relaxed dress code for your wedding party and guests!

3. Venue Selection

Choosing the perfect venue is crucial to creating the ultimate summer wedding experience in Hawaii. From stunning beachfronts to lush tropical gardens, there is a range of breathtaking options to consider.

Beach weddings are particularly popular in Hawaii, offering the opportunity to exchange vows with the sound of the gentle waves and the golden sunset as your backdrop. However, keep in mind that public beaches may be crowded during the summer months, so consider private venues or less busy locations.

We hope these 3 tips will help you in having the PERFECT summer wedding in Hawaii! <3

CONGRATULATIONS THEOLA & ALEX! <3

2022 WEDDING HIGHLIGHT | PHOTOS BY BIANCA PHOTOGRAPHY

A very sweet and intimate wedding celebration at the Kahala Resort on the east side of the island of O’ahu.

Last September, we had the honor of coordinating the wedding for Theola & Alex! This lovely couple began their special day with a Chinese Tea Ceremony in their hotel suite. Family & Friends were gathered in the morning to celebrate the couple’s union with this special cultural tradition. After the Tea Ceremony the couple went to their separate hotel rooms to get ready for their first look!

Though we often see “getting ready” photos include the wedding party, for couples who opt not to have a wedding party but still want these sweet “getting ready” pictures, consider including your parents! These photos of Theola & Alex’s parents helping them prepare for the wedding show the love & support their parents have for their future together and truly make for such sweet photos to look back on!

After some help from the couple’s parents, Theola & Alex were ready for their first look! The Kahala Lobby’s grand staircase makes for such an iconic first look photo location and was the perfect spot for these two to see each other dressed up as Bride & Groom for the very first time! Not only is the staircase of the lobby a stunning photo location, but the ENTIRE lobby area of the Kahala Resort makes for a gorgeous backdrop for these pre-ceremony photos!

After the First Look and Bride & Groom portraits it was finally time for the ceremony at the Plumeria Grove! Surrounded by their family & friends Theola & Alex exchanged their vows and sealed their promise with a kiss!

Following the ceremony the couple and their guests made their way over to Kahala O Ke Kai site for their cocktail hour and the reception. The rest of the night was filled with great food, heartfelt toasts, and just so many smiles as Theola & Alex celebrated their marriage with their closest family and friends!

As it always takes many hard working vendors to work together to execute a wedding day, we truly want to thank all of the wonderful vendors that had a hand in helping us give Theola & Alex the lovely wedding they deserved!

How to Have an Unplugged Wedding

5 tips to Celebrate Without Distraction

In the age of smartphones and social media, capturing and sharing every moment of our lives has become second nature. However, when it comes to your wedding, you may want to consider taking a step back from technology and embracing an unplugged wedding experience! By encouraging your guests to disconnect from their devices, you can create a more intimate and meaningful atmosphere, allowing everyone to fully immerse themselves in your special day! In this blog, we will share some valuable tips on how to have an unplugged wedding and make it a memorable and distraction-free celebration :-)

Communicate Your Wishes in Advance

In order to ensure that your guests are aware of your preference for an unplugged wedding, it's crucial to communicate your wishes well in advance. A few ways that this can be done is by including a note in your wedding invitations, creating a dedicated page on your wedding website, or even sending out gentle reminders as the big day approaches. Express your desire to have everyone PRESENT in the moment and kindly request that cell phones and cameras be left untouched during the ceremony and reception.

If your decision to have an unplugged wedding comes a bit more spontaneously and communicating your wishes in advance is not possible, include a sign at you ceremony or have your officiant make a small announcement before the processional begins to ask all of your guests to silence and put away their phones. This will give you peace of mind that on your walk down the aisle you’ll be able to focus on the faces (not screens) of your family, friends, and of course your best friend waiting to marry you!

Provide Dedicated Phone Areas

If you want your entire wedding to be an unplugged occasion, understanding that some guests may feel uneasy about being separated from their devices for an entire event, consider designating specific areas where they can check their phones. One way to do this is by creating comfortable lounging spots in a designated "phone zone" where they can quickly catch up on messages or take an important call without disrupting the celebration. This way, your guests can still stay connected while respecting the unplugged atmosphere of your wedding!

Photography: Bianca Photography | Venue: Kahala Resort

Hire a Professional Photographer

One of the main reasons guests feel compelled to capture every moment of a wedding is to ensure they have plenty of photographs for their memories and to share with you! By hiring a professional photographer, you can put your guests at ease, knowing that every precious moment will be captured by an expert. Share the details of your photographer with your guests, assuring them that all the beautiful memories will be professionally documented and shared afterward! Also by gently reminding your guests of the high cost it was to hire a professional photographer, may help them to understand the importance of asking them to put their phones away.

Provide an Alternative

Instead of digital cameras and screens, go “old school” with film, disposable, and polaroid cameras at your wedding! Having these non-digital cameras at your unplugged wedding can add a nostalgic touch to your special day and allow your guests to actively engage in capturing moments throughout the event! These cameras foster an intimate and organic ambiance, as guests pause to compose their shots rather than relying on the instant gratification of digital photography. This creates a more authentic and immersive experience for everyone involved, enhancing the overall atmosphere of your unplugged wedding!

Create Ambiance

To further encourage an unplugged atmosphere, focus on creating an ambiance that captivates your guests and keeps their attention away from their devices. Consider incorporating live music, captivating decorations, and interactive entertainment that will immerse everyone in the celebration. By designing a curated ambiance your guests will be encourage to choose to be truly present in the special occasion!

We hope these tips help you to have the unplugged wedding of your dreams!! :-)

5 Ways to Honor Passed Loved Ones at Your Wedding

Losing a loved one is never easy, and on a momentous occasion like your wedding day the thought of them not being there may be difficult to endure. Though there is no way to ever fully replace their prescense, there are ways to honor and remember those who have passed on your wedding day.

Hopefully these various ideas can bring a sense of comfort and love to you and your family on the special occasion. Here are 5 heartfelt and meaningful ways to honor passed loved ones at your wedding, ensuring their presence is felt and cherished throughout the celebration.

1. Memory Table Display

Setting up a memory table at your wedding venue can be a beautiful way to honor your passed loved ones. Arrange framed photographs, sentimental objects, and personal items of those who have passed in a designated area. Include a sign or a small note explaining the significance of the display, so guests can appreciate and pay their respects. This touching tribute will allow both you and your guests to remember and celebrate the lives of those who cannot be physically present.

2. Light a Memorial Candle

During the ceremony or at a designated moment during the reception, consider lighting a memorial candle in honor of your loved ones. The flickering flame symbolizes their eternal presence and the light they brought into your lives. You can even have a dedicated space, such as a small table, where the candle can be placed throughout the event, serving as a constant reminder of the love that endures beyond life.

3. Reserve a Seat or Place in a Ceremony

One touching way to honor passed loved ones is by reserving a seat or place in your ceremony specifically for them. You can place a framed photo or a small memorial plaque on a chair, bench, or pew to symbolize their presence. This simple gesture acknowledges their importance and ensures that they will forever hold a special place in your heart and within the festivities of your wedding day.

4. Include Their Favorite Flowers or Songs

Florist: Always Flowers 808 | Photography: Mike Pham Photography

Incorporating elements that were dear to your departed loved ones is another heartfelt way to honor them. If they had a favorite flower, consider using it in your floral arrangements or bouquets. Listening to their favorite songs during the reception or incorporating them into the ceremony can evoke cherished memories and create an emotional connection between you, your loved ones, and your guests.

This gesture not only pays homage to their memory but also infuses your big day with their undeniable spirit.

5. Keep Them Close

There is something deeply sentimental about wearing a photo of your loved one on your wedding day or having a photo of them nestled in your bouquet. It is a way to keep your beloved close, even if they cannot physically be there to witness your special day. As you exchange vows and take those monumental steps towards a lifetime of love and commitment, that small photo serves as a constant reminder of the love and support that surrounds you. It encapsulates the cherished memories and binds them to the present, creating a beautiful connection between past and future, and ensuring that your loved one's spirit remains intertwined with your joyous celebration.

All in all we hope this provided you with five heartfelt ways to honor passed loved ones at your wedding. By incorporating these meaningful gestures, you can infuse their memories into your special day, creating an atmosphere of love, connection, and remembrance.

Whether it is through displaying photographs, lighting a memorial candle, including their favorite flowers/songs, reserving a place at the ceremony, or keeping a photo of them close to you, each gesture serves as a beautiful tribute that celebrates their presence in spirit. Allowing your loved ones to be present in both your hearts and in the cherished memories of your wedding day.

Ideas for Your Ceremony Backdrop

Your wedding ceremony backdrop is a key element of your overall wedding décor! It can provide the perfect setting for exchanging your vows and committing to a lifetime of love!

Photography: Embr Photo | Venue: Kahala Resort

There are endless ideas for a ceremony backdrop, from traditional altar decor to modern and unconventional designs. Especially with the landscape of Hawaii as your ultimate backdrop, consider incorporating natural elements such as a blooming flower wall, a rustic wooden arch, or a lush greenery wall to create a backdrop that seamlessly blends in with your tropical surroundings! The following are just a few ideas for your wedding ceremony backdrop!

FLORAL ARCH

Photography: Embr Photo | Venue: Kahala Resort

A floral ceremony arch can add so much to a wedding ceremony! The archway not only provides a stunning backdrop but also creates a focal point that can add a special touch to your ceremony setting. Your arch can be customized to fit your theme or color scheme with different types of flowers and greenery.

It also adds a touch of nature to your ceremony, making it feel more organic and authentic! The beauty of a floral ceremony arch is that it can be used in both indoor and outdoor locations, making it a versatile decor option and great for relocating from your ceremony to your reception!

GROUNDED FLORAL ARCH

Similar to the floral arch mentioned above, another ceremony backdrop option is a grounded floral arch! A grounded floral backdrop adds a touch of natural beauty to any outdoor wedding ceremony! The grounded arch serves as a unique focal point for the ceremony and the intricate floral arrangements create a visually stunning backdrop that surrounds you and your other half! Additionally, the grounded arch provides a sturdy foundation for the ceremony, as it’s on the ground you won’t have to worry about wind making it unstable or a safety hazard. A grounded floral wedding arch can be a beautiful, elegant, and safe addition to your outdoor wedding ceremony!

FLORAL PEDESTAL ARRANGEMENTS

Floral pedestal arrangements can add a touch of elegance and romance to your wedding ceremony backdrop! The height of the pedestals creates a grandeur effect and can help to frame the altar space nicely. The flowers can be customized to match the color scheme of your wedding, and the abundance of blooms can create a beautiful focal point for your guests.

Additionally, floral pedestals can be repurposed into reception decor and can serve as a versatile decorative element throughout your celebration. Overall, this arrangement style is a classic and timeless choice for couples seeking a sophisticated and visually stunning ceremony backdrop!

FLORAL & DRAPERY

Adding drapery to your floral ceremony backdrop can be a beautiful and practical addition to your wedding decor! Not only does it add an element of elegance and romance, it also provides a great way to frame your ceremony space and create a more intimate atmosphere.

You can choose drapery in colors that complement your floral arrangements and wedding colors, and play with different textures and fabrics to add depth and interest. Drapery can also soften the look and feel of your venue space and enhance the overall ambiance of your special day.

VENUE PROVIDED BACKROP

Using the wedding backdrop provided by your venue can be an excellent way to add charm and beauty to your special day! As well as make full use of your venue’s wedding package. As these backdrops can be personalized to reflect your style and personality they can still feel custom to you!

With fresh flowers, greenery, ornaments, and other decorations, you can turn a plain venue backdrop into an eye-catching feature that accentuates the overall theme and presentation of your wedding. Furthermore, opting to use the venue's backdrop not only saves you time and money, but it also showcases the natural beauty of the location. With the right creativity and resources, the wedding backdrop can set the tone for the entire event and be an unforgettable part of your lifetime memories!

Photography: Bianca Photography | Venue: Kahala Resort

Whatever route you decide to go down, ensure that the backdrop reflects your personality and style as a couple to make it one of the most memorable moments of your wedding celebration! :-)

How to Include Family & Friends in Your Wedding

On your special day having your friends and family there to celebrate with you is part of what makes it so special! Though most of your family members and friends will be attending your wedding purely as a guest, some may also play a role or have a responsibility at your wedding! The following list are a few of the ways that you can include your family and friends in your wedding day!

Wedding Party

One of the most common ways to include your family or friends in your wedding day is in your wedding party! These are the people that will be right up there with you at the altar as well as supporting you through the planning process! It’s entirely up to you of course on who you want to be in your wedding party but if you’re not sure on how to select these members, because you may not know exactly what you want them to do, check out our blog sharing the dos and don'ts of being in a wedding party HERE

Family Picture Helper

On your wedding day most couples will take formal photos with their family. Though we always work with you to create a list of requested photo combinations that you’d like, it will help you, your photographer and your planner if you have a family picture helper! These two helpers would be in charge of gathering all the family members on the bride’s side and on the groom’s side for the necessary photo combinations. As this person should know everyone on the requested photo list, this role is typically fulfilled by a family member!

Registration Table Helper

Another helper role that you may need for your wedding are registration table helpers! Usually done by 2-3 people these helpers are in charge of checking in guests to your reception, collecting any gifts/cards, and welcoming guests into the ballroom. As these helpers will not be able to mingle with guests during cocktail hour, you may want this to be done by responsible friends who would be understanding of this, and able to effectively take care of this task.

Speech/Toasts

Though we often see members of the wedding party give speeches at a wedding, this task can be done by anyone that you would like to say a few words to or lead a toast at your reception! If there are family members or friends that you want to give more of a responsibility to but one that’s more of an honor than a “job” a speech or toast is a great option! For more info on all things wedding speeches and toasts check out our blog covering this topic HERE

Vendors

The final way on our list to include family & friends into your wedding day, is as a vendor. We often see friends and family members take on the vendor role of hair & makeup artist, officiant, and MC to name a few. Now though this option is a way to give someone you know a huge responsibility on your special day and may save you some money, it does come with a few possible cons that should be considered. Check out our blog covering the things to consider when hiring a friend as a wedding vendor

Whichever way you choose to include your family & friends in your wedding day will make the day as special for them as it will be for you!

Things to Consider When Having an Outdoor Ceremony

When many couples think about getting married in Hawaii a beautiful beach front ceremony or one nestled in the gorgeous green mountains are typically the first visions to come to mind! Saying your vows to your best friend in an outdoor ceremony in the islands of Hawaii can be truly dreamy but with even the most dreamiest things, there are also things to be aware of! We’ll be covering a few things to consider when having an outdoor ceremony in Hawaii!

Photography: Kai Photo | Venue: Koolau Ballrooms

Weather

One of the biggest things to consider when having an outdoor ceremony is the weather! Unfortunately even in Hawaii where our weather is pretty lovely year round, there are days and even moments that don’t have the best weather. The trade winds, although nice and breezy, can blow your veil around, and the passing showers could sprinkle you and your guests during the ceremony!

However, in Hawaii rain is a blessing on your wedding day so it actually may be a nice little touch to your special occasion! :-)

Depending on the severity of the weather your wedding may get delayed. And of course even on a beautiful sunny day the humidity and brightness of the sun are things to consider if you’ll be okay with possibly experiencing on your special day!

Photography: Michele C Photo

Ground

Along the same vein as weather, as you’ll be outside the ground condition that you’ll walk on could vary. If the grass is damp, your white dress could pick up some mud and grass stains. You should also think about the type of shoes you’ll be wearing, stilettos though stunning to look at, you may sink into the grass when walking down the aisle. So if you’ll be walking on grass whether it’s damp or dry, we recommend wearing footwear that’s a bit flatter such as wedges or flats to prevent sinking!

Exit Items

We often see couples recess down the aisle with a celebration! There are many different items that can be used for a wedding exit, such as bubbles, flower petals, paper planes, and many more but they may not all be items that your outdoor venue will approve of. For example, confetti or rice though popular wedding exit items are not typically allowed at outdoor ceremonies as the confetti cannot be easily removed from the grassy site and uncooked rice if consumed by animals can be quite harmful. Though a wedding exit is a fun little celebration to do after saying “I do” a ceremony outdoors will affect what your guests can toss on to you!

Animals/insects

Unwanted guests such as animals and insects may unfortunately make an appearance on your big day. Animals, mainly birds, and insects such as mosquitoes, flies, and bees could fly around your ceremony. Though we don’t see these creatures flying around too often it’s just something to consider when having an outdoor ceremony!

Bystanders

Another kind of unwanted guests are strangers that could be walking around or behind your ceremony site. Depending on your ceremony venue there may be bystanders that you unfortunately don’t have control of, who could end up being near your celebration. Though the majority are polite and supportive, if your ceremony venue is open to the public you should consider how comfortable you are with the idea of strangers witnessing your ceremony!

These are a few things to consider that we hope will help to prepare you for some of the things that come with an outdoor ceremony but we definitely don’t want it to discourage you from having one! An outdoor ceremony in Hawaii makes for a truly beautiful wedding celebration! :-)

If you’re still not sure if you would like an outdoor or indoor ceremony check out our 5 part blog covering these pros and cons below!

CONGRATULATIONS LAUREN & WINSTON! <3

2022 WEDDING HIGHLIGHT | PHOTOS BY DEREK WONG PHOTOGRAPHY

It was a stunning day in Hawaii Nei, when Lauren & Winston tied the knot last May!

Right around this time last year, we had the privilege of coordinating the wedding for Lauren & Winston!

This lovely couple celebrated their special day at the Kahala Resort on the East Side of the Island of Oahu surrounded by their family & friends! After four years of dating as well as going through medical school together they both earned the new titles of Dr. Husband and Dr. Wife! :-)

Lauren & Winston spent the morning of their wedding getting ready in two separate hotel rooms at the Kahala resort! Though they were separate they were not alone as they had their wedding party members with them to get ready and be there for support on their special day!

These moments before the first look and even ceremony are always so special because they capture the excitement and bond of friendship that each couple has supporting them through this next chapter in their lives together!

TIP: Staying overnight at the same venue that you are getting married at is great for ensuring that you won’t run late or get stuck in traffic when heading to your wedding. Some hotel venues even have room package deals when booking rooms in their hotel for a wedding. So if possible chat with your venue and see if you’ll be able to stay the night before your big day!

Before Lauren’s first look with Winston, she did a sweet first look with her parents! This teary-eyed moment, where the bride’s parents see their daughter for the first time on her wedding day, is such a heartwarming moment that can be captured on a wedding day!

If you would like this moment to happen on your wedding day make sure to communicate this with your coordinator and photographer! Keeping no surprises from your coordinator and photographer on the photos moments that you want will ensure that everyone is working together to make sure you get the shots that you want!

A few hours before the ceremony, Lauren & Winson had their first look on the stunning staircase of the Kahala Hotel. This overhead shot of the couple ascending the steps, not only captures a beautiful moment but also the symbolism of the couple literally taking the “next step” in their relationship together! The staircase truly makes for such a sweet and symbolic photo spot!

After the first look and wedding party photos, it was finally time for the touching ceremony! Lauren & Winston exchanged touching personal vows and sealed the deal with a kiss!

The rest of the evening was filled with laughter and celebration as the couple and all of their guests celebrated the happy occasion together in the Waialae Ballroom!

Unique Snacks to Have at Your Hawaii Wedding

A way to truly show how sweet love is, is with SWEET treats of course! *If you prefer salty over sweet, don’t worry we are still going to include salty snacks in this list!* :-)

Photography: Bianca Photography | Venue: Kahala Resort

One way to add some fun and personalization to your wedding is by hosting unique snacks for your guests! We’re not talking about the typical delicious appetizers/drinks you often see served at cocktail hour, but treats that you wouldn’t expect to see at a wedding and served at various times of your event! Here are a few unique snacks to have at your wedding!

Milk Tea

A popular favorite is milk tea, also commonly just called “boba” or “bubble tea”! This is a great sweet treat for your guests to sip on at your reception! As there are many local milk tea stores on the island, contact your favorite one to see if they’d be able to provide the tea or even be there to serve it at your reception

Shave Ice

A treat perfect for the Hawaii weather, is Shave Ice! Especially if your ceremony will be held outdoors, this icy snack is a great cocktail hour treat that can help guests cool off before the ballroom doors open!

Spam Musubis

A Hawaii staple, THE go to snack, and probably one of the most popular items purchased at a local 7-11 is the Spam Musubi! This savory treat will make for a delicious cocktail hour or late night snack!

Sweets Bar

Obsessed with sweets?! Consider having a candy or dessert bar at your reception! The assortment of various sweets, pastries, and confectioneries will not only be a tasty treat for your guests but also a fun activity for them to choose as many sweets as they’d like! This may be an especially fun activity for children, so consider a candy bar if you’re planning to have kids at your wedding!

Late Night Snack Bar

We covered a sweets bar so now we have to of course mention a late night snack bar! After dinner is served, and the wedding cake has been cut, treat your guests with a fun surprise of an assortment of late night snacks that they can munch on when they take breaks from dancing on the dance floor

There are SOOO many different kinds of snacks that you can have at your wedding but these were just a few of our favorite unique ideas! If you’re interested in having these kinds of snacks at your wedding make sure to chat with your venue and coordinator to ensure that it’s possible to serve your desired treat and have a wedding that’s oh so sweet! 😋

Thing to Consider When Hiring a Wedding DJ and MC

Photography: Bianca Photography

Your wedding DJ/MC can highly influence the vibe of your reception! They will be the ones to get your guests to laugh, dance, and follow your reception program! As many DJ’s offer MC services we often group the two roles together but as there are also many wonderful MCs that specialize in providing only this service we will go through the things to consider for hiring a DJ AND for a MC!

Of course when selecting the best vendor for you we recommend always referring to your budget and priorities list to make sure that your MC/DJ fits into your wedding budget! Knowing the amount you want to spend on this vendor(s) will help you focus on considering only companies that are within your budget. This is one way to help you stay in control of your wedding expenses!

DJ

  • Package Options: Many DJs offer additional services that can be booked when you hire them as your DJ. These services could include: Photo Booth, Uplighting, and of course MC services as well! Depending on the vendor and the type of package, you may be able to save money by booking additional items with your DJ rather than with multiple vendors. A great package could save you time and money!

  • Style: Consider the style you are going for? Do you want a DJ who remixes music or one who plays the songs in full? Imagine the ambiance, vibe, and overall feel that you want your guests to have in your ballroom and consider a DJ who will bring this vision to life!

MC

  • Personality: Your master of ceremonies will be a big influence on the atmosphere of your reception! They have to be able to excite your guests while abiding by your timeline to ensure that your reception program runs smoothly! Consider an emcee whose personality vibes with you as well as with all of your guests!

  • Professionalism: Not only do they have to be fun but they have to be professional too! Consider a MC who can follow your reception program, facilitate your script clearly, and can work well with your other vendors.

Reviews and Referrals

One of the best ways to find a DJ or MC is by reviews and referrals! Reviews by previous couples can give you insight to how the vendor performed on a wedding day. Whereas referrals by your venue, coordinator or other vendors can help you find a DJ/MC that comes highly regarded by other professionals in the wedding industry!

In this blog we focused on the things to consider when hiring a DJ or MC but if you’re still debating between a DJ or a Band check out our blog going over this topic HERE!

Whether you select a DJ who will also be your MC or a DJ and a MC separately we hope this will help you choose your perfect wedding DJ/MC!

Tips for Wedding Speeches and Toasts

The thought of having to speak in front of a large group of people can be nerve wracking for most, especially at such a momentous event as a wedding!! One of the best ways to alleviate those nerves is to be prepared! Whether you’re the one tying the knot or it’s your friend who is getting married and asked you to give a speech, this blog is full of tips to help you write and deliver an amazing wedding speech or toast!

Photography: Keani Bakula | Venue: Halekulani Resort

Before we get into tips for the actual speech & toast let’s breakdown the type of speakers we typically have!

Member of the Wedding Party

Two popular members of the Wedding Party that are often seen giving a speech to the happy couple are the Maid of Honor and the Best Man.

A tip for the speaker:

In your speech you have the opportunity to share how wonderful of a friend the bride or groom is! We often hear stories that are funny that get all of the guests laughing, or stories that are heartfelt that have guests looking for a tissue to dry their eyes.

If you’re not sure on the type of speech you want to deliver, have a chat with your friend who’s getting married! In case there are certain things they’d like you to say, or even things not to mention, it could help you ensure that you deliver a speech that they’ll love to hear on their wedding day!

A tip for the couple:

Think about your wedding party and their individual skills. If you have a bridesmaid or groomsmen who is a great public speaker (even if they’re not your maid of honor or best man), consider having them deliver a speech!

You could even have your wedding party work together to write something and have one person deliver the message!

Photography: Christie Pham Photography | Venue: Halekulani Resort

Family Member of the Couple

The family members we often see saying a speech for the Bride or Groom are their parents or siblings. Unlike speeches given by a member of the wedding party these speakers can share a few words about their child/sibling to describe how they have grown up to be where they are today.

Last but not least we have the newlyweds of course!

Newlyweds

We often see the couple say a short speech that sometimes includes recognizing family members, guests who are visiting from out of town, and thanking all of their friends & family for being there to celebrate the occasion with them!  Instead of worrying about forgetting to thank someone and taking up a lot of time of your program, we recommend thanking everyone who has helped you throughout your lives and for making the wedding day one you’ll never forget!

Those are the folks we typically see deliver wedding speeches but of course your speakers can be anyone!

Now for the tips for your wedding speech or toast!

Print it Out

Having a copy of your speech ready will prevent you from having to “wing it” and give you something to refer to when speaking to your audience! We recommend printing it out, as paper typically looks better in photographs than a phone and just to have the peace of mind that if your phone battery dies or the speech accidentally gets deleted you’ll have your hard copy speech ready to go!

Short & Sweet

We typically allot for speakers to have 5 minutes to deliver their speech. Keeping your message short & sweet will ensure that you won’t lose your audience’s attention!

Focus on a Message

One way to keep your speech from going all over the place is by choosing one main message to share and sticking to it for the entirety of your speech!

Toasts

Toasts are typically shorter than a speech and rather than telling a story is usually a concise message that sends a wish to the newlyweds!

One toast that’s very popular at local Japanese weddings is the banzai toast! This  toast is done twice typically by two different people, one to send a toast to the happy couple from their guests and one from the guests to the happy couple! The speakers delivering this toast should be able to deliver it loud and boisterous, so keep this in mind when choosing who will be giving your banzai toasts!  For more details and the instructions of how to deliver this toast check out our blog HERE

Things to Avoid

A few things to avoid in your speech or toast:

  • Including inside jokes that the majority of the guests won’t understand.

  • Stories that would make any guests feel uncomfortable.

  • A story the Bride/Groom may not want family to know about ;-)

Photography: Bianca Photography | Florist: Spinning Web Florist | Venue: Kahala Resort

Good Luck!!

After you’ve made your speech practice it on your own and with others till you feel confident enough to share it on the wedding day!

We hope this helps you deliver a spectacular speech or terrific toast! :-)
