When should you start planning your wedding? How do you plan a wedding in a year?
These are great questions and depending on each couples situation, availability, budget, and resources, the answer may vary. This being said, we have worked with couples to plan their weddings (from scratch) with 2 years time and a few with just 1 month’s time to get it all done. Although neither may be ideal to you (as too much time can make it too stressful for some as it allows more opportunity to consider more options and change your minds) and having too little time can create stress to make quick decisions. Of course, the opposite could be said where having more time can give you the opportunity to take things slowly and having less time can ensure you don’t stress over every decision. This is why there is no “right” or “wrong” time to start your planning and the answer will vary depending to who you are as a couple. Let us know if you’d like a custom plan.
When we work with our couples, the plan to action will always be customized to their unique priorities, budget, availability, & style but if hiring a professional isn’t possible for you, there are some overall concepts we would recommend.
Discuss and determine a budget (that you both are comfortable with spending)
Create your actual guest list. Since your guest list will directly determine how to stay in your budget, it is important to work with facts and not just an estimated guest list.
Determine which type of vendors you plan to hire (create a list)
Brainstorm other items you want to have at your wedding (ie: “Welcome” sign, escort cards, card box, Ring Bearer’s pillow, etc.)
Research, interview, and begin securing your vendors. If possible, we recommend that you secure all vendors by 4 months prior
4 Months - 1 Month prior, you will want to finalize all details, wedding day timeline, and purchase any supplies you plan to use
1 Month prior, confirm all details with all vendors, receive RSVPs, assign guests to tables, and attend parties (bachelorette, bachelor, bridal shower, etc.)
As you may have noticed, our strategy is simplified just to not overwhelm anyone, but if you follow the sequence above, you will have a much better chance of enjoying the planning process! IF you have the right team behind you, any amount of time you have to plan can be enjoyable! If you follow us on Instagram, we will be announcing a wedding planning video series to guide you through your planning with a lot more guidance!
Happy Planning!
